Gateway Towers is a proposed 650,000 SF office park located at the Gateway Skytrain Station in Surrey. The scope of work included facilitating a kick-off meeting, a Design Intent Charrette (1.5 days) followed by two subsequent full day charrettes (attended by between 50 and 60 people) to advance the site and building design for Development Permit Submission. While the project started with plans that had been previously prepared for the owner, the process led to the inclusion of a site wide geo-exchange system; utilizing an existing building’s “over-sized” mechanical equipment for the new buildings; and adding a new use – residential, with all of the benefits that come with mixed use (reduced transportation, enlivened streets, heat recovery from commercial and balanced loads for the geo-exchange system).
